Hi, I’m Kim.
I’ve always loved the bit before you go out.

The outfit options on the bed. Someone doing their makeup in your mirror. Music on (preferably Shania Twain). A drink somewhere it probably shouldn’t be.

Getting dressed up has never really been just about the clothes.

But what realllly gets me going?

People.

I’m nosy. I notice things.

What someone’s wearing. Who knows everyone, or absolutely no one.
Who’s already made friends in the bathroom.

Crayons.
Champagne Taste.
First-Class Honours.

While at uni, I juggled a sketchbook, a cask wine budget, and a wardrobe I poured every spare dollar (and a few questionable life choices) into.

I sketched. (A LOT.) Paid portraits taught me how to bring people to life on paper.

Then came Smitten With Love. Nine years of stationery, illustration and design, eventually named one of New Zealand’s top five stationery businesses.

Motherhood changed the shape of things. Somewhere in the fog of a new body, endless unseen jobs and not quite feeling like myself, colour became a way back in. So did drawing.

While my daughter napped, I started drawing fashion illustrations.

DRAWN started there.

Perhaps that’s why making a little fuss of people matters so much to me. There’s something rather lovely about being properly noticed.

If I had to choose one crayon, It’d be pink, hands down! It’s that colour that’s effortlessly fun and fabulous. Bold, bright, and feminine—it makes a statement while still looking oh-so-lovely.

Weird food combos? Okay, I confess—I’m not exactly the most daring foodie. But pineapple on pizza? Oh yes! It just works. I know it’s not the most elegant choice, but hey, sometimes delicious wins over 'taste'!

It all starts with great underwear, right? It’s like your secret power move—no one sees it, but it gives you the perfect foundation of comfort and confidence. Since becoming a Mum, I’ve been loving Australian brand Nala.

You’d think a walk through Wellington’s gardens would have me swooning over the flowers? Nope—a simple shadow stole the show. A friend (Hi Ken 👋) pointed out all the hidden colours, and my whole view of the world shifted. Now, I catch glimpses of beauty in the most unexpected places.

My style? My farmer husband once asked why I dress like a rainbow 😂. I love colour, texture, and dopamine dressing, but always curated. On mum days, it’s Merry People pink gumboots, a cozy knit, and leggings. But don’t worry—I scrub up just fine for special occasions!

I love that.

Because there is something slightly personal about inviting an illustrator into the middle of your event.

I’ll meet your guests, photograph them, draw them and hear a surprising amount of what’s going on around me, even with my head down.

Which makes this less of an About page and more of a very polite background check.
